80+ Funny FPL Team Names for the 2026/27 Season

Every August the same thing happens. You've got £100.0m to spend, 15 squad slots to fill, and the first genuinely difficult decision of the season has nothing to do with any of it. It's the box at the top of the form: team name. I've been playing FPL since 2008 and I'm not proud of how long I've spent on this over the years - some seasons longer than my GW1 captaincy call. So this year I've done the work for all of us: funny FPL team names for 2026/27, sorted by club, plus topical picks for the data crowd, a set of manager classics, and the all-time hall of fame.

Four rules before you commit

  1. 20 characters is the limit. FPL cuts you off at 20, spaces included. Every name below is built to that budget, and you'll see the count next to each one.
  2. Beware the transfer window. A player pun is only funny while the player is still at the club. Club puns age better; if you go with a player, pick one who isn't being linked with a move every morning.
  3. The February test. It needs to still be funny in GW24, when you're 43rd in your mini-league and captaining out of spite.
  4. The read-aloud test. If you'd wince hearing it announced at the work league prize-giving, pick the other one.

FPL Team Name FAQs

How many characters can an FPL team name be?

20 characters, including spaces. That's why every name in this article shows a character count - the limit is the whole game.

Can I change my FPL team name after the season starts?

No. Team names lock once the season kicks off, so decide before the GW1 deadline. Mid-season rebrands aren't an option, which is exactly why the February test matters.

What is the funniest FPL team name?

Of the current crop, Iwobi Wan Kenobi. Of all time, MurderOnZidanesFloor - exactly 20 characters once you remove the spaces, and still unbeaten.

Do funny team names affect your FPL points?

Not even slightly. Zero points, zero rank. It's the one part of FPL you control completely, which is probably why we all take it far too seriously.

Pick One and Move On

Whichever one you go with, commit early. Once your mates have screenshotted the league table, the name has stuck whether you change it or not, and no amount of January rebranding will save you.

The name is also the last decision of the season where the stakes are zero. From GW1 onwards it's captaincy calls, price rises, and chip timing, and those decisions do move your rank. If you want a head start on that side of things, our captaincy principles guide is the place to begin.

Name sorted. Now the other 38 gameweeks.

The Assistant Manager handles the decisions that actually move your rank - transfer suggestions, captaincy calls, and a Best XI built from the underlying numbers, every single gameweek. Free to start, and ready before the 2026/27 deadline.
